SCHG Presents in October

October 10 & 11, 2017

With Sarah Smelt

ABOUT: Sara moved to California from England in 1998 where her years as a research scientist competed with her creative side. Sara's interest in felting was first piqued when she saw it incorporated into freeform crochet pieces and then a trip to Iceland, an extraordinary land full of wonderful traditional and nuno felt, convinced her that this was where her fiber art future lay, so in 2011 she began felting full time. Sara will show us how to lay wool on silk fabric and process felt to make a beautiful scarf.

MORNING PROGRAM: “Felt Like You Never Felt Before” plus a brief tribute to the Armenian Genocide “One Hundred Year Journey in Felt”.

Saturday workshop: 1 – 4:30 pm Sunday workshop: 9 am – 4 pm

WORKSHOP: Make your own nuno felted scarf. No experience necessary, but felting is a physical activity so participants must come prepared to stand and roll their scarf for extended periods (around 1 hour in 10 minute intervals) and given the cement floors, wearing sneakers is recommended.

There is a limit of 12 participants for this workshop – intermediate weavers preferred.
