About this event
The presentation introduces the principles of traditional Japanese Sashiko, focusing on both its cultural background and practical foundations. We will learn what Sashiko is and how it developed as a meaningful hand-stitching practice rooted in everyday life in Japan. The lecture will explore the history of Sashiko, common styles and patterns, and the many ways Sashiko has been used—from mending and reinforcing textiles to creating functional and decorative pieces. Practical guidance will also be shared, including essential tools, materials, and how to choose appropriate fabric, needles, and threads for Sashiko. This presentation provides a thoughtful foundation for understanding Sashiko.
