COMMUNITY OUTREACH PROGRAMS
As an all-volunteer, 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, SCHG is committed to making hand weaving accessible to anyone in the community.
We provide free weaving demonstrations at museums, libraries, parks, and recreation centers.
We use our weaving and sewing skills to make scarves, masks, and toys for community organizations.
Sometimes we combine the two. Check out our video to see how.
Fiber Arts Day
Huntington Gardens, San Marino
Annual Event Held in May
Guild members demonstrate weaving, dyeing, and spinning.
We bring a variety of looms and invite guests of all ages to try weaving.
Anyone can learn to weave!
This fun event is held in the Rose Garden near the Tea Room at the Huntington Gardens.
Annual Sheep Shearing Event
Los Angeles Zoo
When the L.A. Zoo’s Shetland sheep get a public haircut each spring, Guild members demonstrate spinning and weaving to show what happens to wool once it’s cleaned.
Sponsored by the Los Angeles Zoo, this exciting activity is a learning opportunity for kids of all ages.
Exhibitions & Demos
We love to share our work through exhibits and demonstrations at museums, libraries, galleries, and other public venues.
For information on arranging a Fiber Arts exhibit or demo day, please contact our Outreach Coordinator.
Masks to Fight Covid-19
In response to the coronavirus pandemic, Guild members have made hundreds of masks to give to essential workers and the general public. We share tips on designs and materials.
Scarves for Homeless Youth
Woven with love and care, the scarves we donate to My Friend's Place
provide uniqueness and beauty along with protection from the elements.
We're always looking for new Outreach opportunities. If you have ideas, please contact our Outreach Coordinator.
