What could be better than combining your love of weaving with bookmaking? Join Deborah Graham on October 3, 2020 for an all- day bookmaking workshop where you will take blank pages of paper and cardboard to create a 6” x 9” journal using your handwoven material for the cover.

MATERIALS REQUIRED:
• Piece of handwoven material approximately 12” x 15”.  It should be woven with yarn no larger than 10/2.  The finer the material, the easier it will be to cover the book.  If time allows, a smaller book can be made using your fabric, so bring an extra piece or any store bought fabric you have on hand.  The smaller book will require a piece of fabric approximately 8” x 11”.
• Pair of sharp scissors
• Metal ruler - preferably 18” or longer
All other materials will be supplied by the teacher. Materials charge payable to the teacher tbd (roughly $15).

ABOUT THE TEACHER: Deborah Graham has been dabbling in crafts since she was very young. She majored in Art at UCLA, and found her passion when she walked into the weaving studio as a junior. Jim Bassler was one of her professors, and all weaving had to be pieces of art. Since then, Deborah has continued to weave and play with color and form, specializing in 3-D weavings created on an 8 shaft loom. As an elementary school teacher, she incorporated art as much as possible into her classroom.  After a back injury in 2000, Deborah has not been able to work teaching school. After purchasing a used Macomber loom, she found her passion again and was able to continue weaving. Besides weaving, Deborah is interested in all crafts, especially bookmaking, knitting, crocheting, spinning and exploring new techniques most of which are self-taught.

WORKSHOP FEE: $95 for SCHG members, $135 for non-members. Because of limited space to accommodate social distancing, members will have first priority.

MAXIMUM CLASS SIZE: 6 students

COVID-19 PRECAUTIONS: All participants will be required to wear masks. (We recommend bringing more than one.) Work tables will be sanitized before class and spaced at least 6 feet apart. No food will be supplied. The workshop will take place outdoors at the Reseda home of member Gary Downs.
