"Candletop Basketmaking" with Judy Zugish -- CANCELED

In this course, students can discover the beauty and flexibility of willow barks and weaving on a molded form. There is a shimmer and strength in the natural harvest, a chance to incorporate the unique subtleties of nature. Explore forming a base, twining, simple weave to a shapely contour. Become familiar with border options and finish techniques. Great fun for all levels and a glowing treasure on your table! Extra materials will be available for purchase after class—you will want to make more! Students ages 14 and up are welcome..

Materials fee of $85, payable to the instructor includes: homegrown and hand processed willow barks, design bark options, mold, threads as needed, written instructions, use of specialized tools.

About the teacher:
Judy Zugish is a basketry artist and educator whose work is experimental and sculpted from nature. She has explored plants in her celebrated fibre arts garden for over 30 years with keen curiosity. In 1991, she dedicated her energies to starting a field school on her nursery property, hosting national and international instructors to the Northwest, helping to create a fabulous new basketry excellence. A bit of an explorer by nature, she has roamed widely since 1998, leading journeys in basketmaking to Japan and England, Denmark, France and Germany. Recent explorations have focused on educational residencies and research in both New Zealand and Australia. And she is super excited to be discovering textiles and basketmaking in Peru in October 2022!    When her magic slippers are home, she lives in Marysville, Washington, where she can be found deep in the foliage or working in her studio, surrounded by “ceiling bark”:-)
